Clearer picture of stroke

ACCORDING to the Health Ministry, more than 50,000 people suffered from stroke in Malaysia last year. Stroke or cerebro vascular accident occurs when there is a sudden death of a portion of the brain cells due to a lack of oxygen. It happens when the blood flow to the brain is disrupted due to blockage (like a blood clot) or rapture of an artery to the brain.

On 20th February 2008, the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Dr.Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hassan Sahabuddin announced the decision to combine the Faculty of Medicine and Hospital UKM into a unified, fully integrated academic medical centre, called the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre.
